Man arraigned in court for attempting to rape a 15 years old girl

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Illorin has arraigned a 35years old man John Ale for attempted rape on a 15 years old girl. According to the prosecutor Insp. Isaac Yakubu, The girl a child of the neighbour to John was invited to John's House by his wife Mrs Ope Ale who asked the small girl to look after the food on the stove while she went to buy something. John allegedly attempted to have a carnal knowledge of the little girl, only for his wife to return home when he was about to rape the girl.

Mr Emmanuel Ochema, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Station in Oro on July 22. "He tore my daughter's cloth and he attempted to spoil her before he was caught on the act". Mr. Emmanuel said.

Yakubu said that the accused assaulted the victim in an indecent manner with intent to `outrage her modesty.’
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 268 of Penal Code Law. He prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable the police carryout detailed investigation into the matter.

The defendant, however, denied committing the offence. The Magistrate, Mr Osuolale Ajayi, however, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 7 for further mention.
