BEWARE BOKO HARAM! US to train Nigeria Civil defence officers on counter terrorism

The US is currently making plans to provide technical support to help fight terrorism in the country, by means of training and retraining of the Nigeria security and civil defence corp officers. This was made known to reporters by the senior police advisor U.S embassy Mr Michael Bonner when he visited the Nigeria security and civil defence corps state commandant Ibrahim Abdullahi in maiduguri. Mr. Bonner hinted that the US will train the NSCDC officers on on post-bomb blast investigation technique, counter-terrorism techniques to enable you to identify potential threats and protect people in soft targets as well as prevent terror attack.

"We will provide the nececssary technical support to the NSCDC. This training will focus mainly on critical infrastructure protection, anti-terrorism and post-bomb blast investigation technique. About 25 NSCDC officers will be trained alongside the officers of the police force. The trained ones will be expected to train the others" He said. He added that such training is necessary especially now when the country is facing serious security concerns in the North East.

The Borno State commandant of the Nigeria security and civil defence corp in his response said that the NSCDC has gone a long way in fighting terrorism in the state. According to him, many of high profiled Boko Haram insurgents, their food suppliers and informants have been arrested. He also hinted that they have recovered weapons and spiritual books used by the insurgents to hypnotise new recruits and suicide bombers.
