Man United vs Everton player ratings: Nemanja Matic brilliant and David de Gea good
Man Utd vs Everton was a testing Premier League fixture for Jose Mourinho and his players as Nemanja Matic and David de Gea excelled.
David de Gea
Has not conceded a goal at Old Trafford since April and was unflappable against his former captain. Made some vital saves in the second-half. 8/10
Antonio Valencia
His first goal at Old Trafford was his best yet for United. The early breakthrough forced Everton to alter their approach and it benefited United. 7/10
Phil Jones
A return to form after his aberration at Stoke. Marshalled Wayne Rooney impressively and his improved passing was serene. 7/10
Eric Bailly
An early hard tackle on Rooney was the hangover cure for his dithering defending at Stoke. Like Jones, enjoyed a secure return to form. 8/10
Ashley Young
Deservedly kept his place, albeit on the opposite flank, and was bright again. Had his work cut out at times but excelled at both ends. 7/10
Nemanja Matic
His excellent start continues. Had more of an influence on the United attack in the first-half than Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Juan Mata. 8/10
Marouane Fellaini
Not as imposing as he has been off the bench. United were bound to miss Paul Pogba and Fellaini struggled to offer any creativity.
6/10
Juan Mata
Began energetically but soon faded and was too intent to come infield, where it was too congested. Hit the post with a free-kick. 6/10
Marcus Rashford
Failed to justify his start with a quiet and error-laden first-half. His withdrawal in the second-half was inevitable. 4/10
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Seemed to miss Pogba in the first-half and there was an over-reliance on him. Improved after half-time and took goal well. 7/10
Romelu Lukaku
Ran selflessly but squandered a gilt-edged chance to extend the advantage. Overcame miss to assist Mkhitaryan coolly and score to silence Scousers. 7/10
Subs
Jesse Lingard
Wasted a good chance. 5/10
Ander Herrera
Shored things up. 5/10
Anthony Martial
Came on late and took penalty well. 7/10
