Chelsea and Arsenal combined XI:

  • Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
  • The Gunners beat Chelsea to win the community Shield in August
  • When Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates in September last year, it proved to be the turning point in their season.

The crushing loss sparked a tactical change which heralded a 13-game winning run which took Antonio Conte's side to the top of the Premier League and firmly in control of the title race...

  • They meet again at Stamford Bridge and, ahead of the big game, we select a composite XI from the two probable line-ups in a 3-4-3 formation.
THIBAUT COURTOIS(Chelsea) - GOALKEEPER
A tough choice between the sticks with two top-class goalkeepers who have perhaps not been at the peak of their powers of late. But the nod has to go to Courtois, given the fact he's been in a better form recently than Cech.

CESAR AZPILICUETA(Chelsea) - DEFENDER

Chelsea's switch to three at the back proved the catalyst for their surge to the top of the table last season and Azpilicueta has been a big part of that. In terms of size he's not a typical centre back, but he has adapted to his new role superbly and has emerged as one of the best defenders in the league.

DAVID LUIZ(Chelsea) - DEFENDER

Conte's last summer big signing has looked at home as part of a back three, which offers him more protection and allows him time on the ball. He arrived back at Stamford Bridge as a bit of a gamble, but has proved plenty of people wrong since.

LAURENT KOSCIELNY(Arsenal) - DEFENDER

It is very clear that Arsene wenger choosed to revert Arsenal from the 4-3-3 formation to the 3-4-3 formation simply because Chelsea has enjoyed success from using the system. Laurent Koscielny is clearly the Best defender in Arsene wenger's team and one of the Best central defenders in the league. The Frenchman is quick, strong and good in the air and is a good enough all-round player to fit alongside the Blues' pair of Luiz and Azpilicueta.

VICTOR MOSES(Chelsea) - RIGHT WING BACK

If we were to judge from last season's performances, then Hector Bellerin would have been considered here. Victor Moses has enjoyed a rich vein of recently and has blended shear strength, power and pace to his game. He is the only African in the team.

MARCOS ALONSO(Chelsea) - LEFT WING BACK

Alonso offers a good combination of defence and attack and gives his side good balance. He's another to have benefited from the formation switch and has proven he is able to contribute going forward in recent times. Arsenal new boy Saed Kolasinac is worthy of mention here. He is athletic and has showed good prospects. Many would argue that he should make the team, but the truth remains that he is yet to establish himself in England.

N'GOLO KANTE(Chelsea) - CENTRAL MIDFIELD

A no-brainer in the centre of midfield, Kante's work-rate does the job of two players and is a vital cog which allows Conte's side to work seamlessly. He won the PFA best player last year, His work rate helped Leicester the the title two seasons ago and did the same job for Chelsea last year. He has started this season in good form and he displayed a brilliant performance against his former team last weekend.

MESUT OZIL(Arsenal) - CENTRAL MIDFIELD

In order to fit Ozil into this side, which he deserves to be included in, he needs to drop a little deeper and play alongside Kante. Xhaka may stake claims to have been the most in-form Arsenal midfielder so far this season, but Ozil is a proven world beater any day. The German delivered an excellent performance last week and deserves to be in this team

ALEXIS SANCHEZ(Arsenal) - FORWARD

The front three picks itself and Sanchez has to be part of that. The Chilean makes Arsenal tick and is a world class forward. Recently, he is seen as a contract rebel by most gunners faithfuls and his relationship with the fans has been friction-ladden. The chilean is a big game player, he can simply walk into any team in Europe and deserves to be in this team.

EDEN HAZARD(Chelsea) - FORWARD

Hazard, perhaps more than anyone, terrorised Premier League defences last season. His direct running will cause any side problems. He returned from injury during the champions league opening match and is expected to continue from where he stopped last season

ALEXANDRE LACAZATTE (Arsenal) - CENTRAL STRIKER

The Frenchman is a proven and consistent goalscorer. No wonder why Arsene Wenger broke his transfer record to sign him. His records in the french league speaks volume and he has made an excellent start to life in England. This was a tough call as Morata, Welbeck, Batshuanyi can all stake claims to start in this team but Lacazzate makes the team. He simply fits into the team as he is an excellent finisher both on the feet, in the air. He can dribble, he has pace and is also a very good passer of the Ball.

Chelsea 7-4 Arsenal
