MKO Abiola: Oyo, Ondo and Ogun declare June 12 public holiday
Monday, June 12, 2017 has been declared as work free day in Oyo, Ondo and Ogun States.
Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli in a statement made available to journalists on Friday said Governor Abiola Ajimobi has in commemoration of the anniversary of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections, generally believed to have been won by late Chief MKO Abiola, Monday 12th June, has been declared as work-free day .
According to him, Chief Abiola, will be honoured for laying down his life for Nigerians to enjoy the democratic dividends of today.
In the same vein, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has declared Monday, June 12, 2017 as public holiday.
The Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa,in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta said the annual holiday is in honour of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, an illustrious son of the state, widely believed to have won the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election.
According to him, this year’s celebration will feature the annual ‘Democracy walk’starting from the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta through the major streets to the Abiola family house in Oke-Ido, Abeokuta North. The walk is to be led by the governor and later in the day, a stage play directed by prof. Bakare ojo Rasaki "Oju kelekun" meaning "farewell to reproach" will be performed at the June 12 cultural centre
